“Service is the virtue that has distinguished the great of all times and which they will be remembered by. It places a mark of nobility upon its disciples. It is the dividing line which separates the two great groups of the world–those who lift and those who lean, those who contribute and those who only consume. How much better it is to give than to receive. Service in any form is comely and beautiful. To give encouragement, to impart sympathy, to show interest, to banish fear, to build self-confidence and awaken hope in the heart of others, in short–to love them and to show it –is to render the most precious service.”
Bryant S. Hinckley

Dear Sister West, What a fabulous web diplay of the happenings in NY - Astoria! My husband, Larry, knew that J.J. Astor founded the area & we are ecstatic to have our eldest son, Thomas, with you. He is a people person and one who often draws people to him. His letters home have been So positive indicating how engaged he is with the desire to present the Gospel of Christ to those who want to hear! We've been thrilled to view Thomas & all the missionaries on your great pictoral/narrative site! I've told him to watch for the beautiful cherry blossoms! And what a spiritual fulfillment to already have gone to the Manhattan Temple!! He spoke of the wonderful Easter dinner, his great companions, the amazing architecture and exceptional people who we know are making a wonderful contribution to his life! I usually write Thomas late Sunday night, but this Monday as I wrote, I know he barely missed mine! He loves you all & is proud to be under the leadership of President & Sister Bennion. Thomas attended B.B.Ranch. Three of our daughters were L-Teamers at the Quickwater Ranch with Dick & Sue Jacobsen & our twins are very good friends with Elise Chamberlain! Her parents are super! Anyway, we love & miss Thomas but know he is exactly where the Lord needs him... Sincerely, Margie Patton
